Each month, we’ll introduce you to a member of our Female Travel Bloggers Facebook community so you can learn about who they are, why they became a blogger and what their favorite travel moments have been so far.

Meet Janine Good from “Fill My Passport.”

What inspired you to start blogging?

With a journalism background and a passion for travel, it only seemed fitting to put my strengths to good use and share my experiences with the world. When I decided to go down this path, I did get quite a big awakening on the industry and everything I needed to learn, but it has been a fun and rewarding journey so far.

How did you come to name your blog?

I love passport stamps. I keep all my passports and will be creating a shadowbox art piece with the expired pages as a decorative memento of my travels. I stand behind the saying that the best stories are told between the pages of a passport so I came up with Fill My Passport through these notions.

What makes you unique compared to all other bloggers out there?

Time to get my narcissism on! I think my approach to blogging is personal and my writing style is engaging. I like to give someone the information they are seeking with a touch of humor and inner experience. I have been told that my writing is interesting and through my experiences, I try to keep readers coming back for further anecdotes and information.

What do you love most about being part of the FTB group?

It’s a forum where females that do the same thing and seek information can come together. It feels somewhat like an online family, a tribe who is familiar with the industry and can support everyone. I cannot tell you how many times I must explain what I do to those who are outside the blogging circle. It is nice to have a place where questions can be asked, jokes can be told, and support is always there.

What advice do you have for people wanting to start a blog or those who are struggling to continue with it?

To those who say to me that they want to start a blog, I tell them to research the steps to take first before embarking on the journey. I tell them to take a course to get the framework and understand what exactly goes into blogging should you wish it to be your full-time job. It is hard work and those who think it is easy are in for a rough ride!

What are your blogging goals?

It is my full-time gig so my goals are for it to become successful and profitable. I see this being possible in the upcoming months with a monetization project nearing its launch.

What has been your biggest blogging win?

So far my big blogging wins are working with brands to get the experience. One brand, in particular, that really made me happy was the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Them agreeing to work with me was a turn in the right direction and they were pleased with my work.

Where do you live?

I live in Toronto, Canada.

What do you do for your career?

I am a journalist with a background in print and editing. I have my own editing business and do freelance on the side while I build Fill My Passport

What is your favorite film?

My favorite film is Last Holiday starring Queen Latifah. I love the message in the movie that life is short so turn possibilities into realities. I also love that it is set in Karlovy Vary, a place on my bucket list.

What song is your life anthem?

Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World Medley by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. I love the song anyway, but the words and the melody of his version just make me so happy. We played this at our wedding and it is also on my wedding video.

What quote sums up where you are right now?

Life is not measured by how many breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Do you have an embarrassing travel story?

I was traveling through the UK and staying with friends who offered to take myself and my boyfriend at the time to Stratford Upon-Avon. My friend happened to mention that while there we must also visit Anne Hathaway’s cottage. I looked at my boyfriend and said “she has a cottage? I thought she lived in California. I had no idea!” My friend just laughed and said “Um, Anne Hathaway was Shakespeare’s wife” I wanted to crawl under the table haha.

What has been your most memorable travel experience so far and what made it so unforgettable?

I was traveling through Europe for 6 weeks on a tour. I left for a new beginning and boy did I get one! I met my husband in Paris! I was waiting at the Musee d’Orsay for the bus to pick me up with others from my tour group and he walked by. He was also in the tour group and we started chatting. We hit it off right away and have not looked back. This was August of 2013 and we married in March 2015.

What is your favorite city and country and why?

Many ask me this question and I answer it the same every time. All continents are different and I feel that you cannot compare a European nation with an Asian one, a South American one with an African one etc. So I will answer it by the continents I have visited:

North America – The province of Ontario – my home and where I am traveling the most right now exploring my own backyard.

Oceania – Australia – my hubby is from here and I have been four times. It is such a beautiful place. One of my favorite spots in Australia is Sydney.

Europe – London is my favorite. There is so much to see and do to the point that I have a complete section on the blog with London information. I lived in England for 2 years with a home in Cambridgeshire. I couldn’t live in London as I find it too busy and crowded, but visiting it and experiencing it is one of my favorite things.

Asia – China and in particular Chengdu. I loved seeing the Panda sanctuary and how rehabilitation efforts are saving them from extinction.

What one destination did not impress you and why?

It is sad to say, but I didn’t have the best time in the Maldives. I was there for a week on a Dhoni boat for an authentic experience and didn’t have the best time. Perhaps it had to do with my guide or perhaps it had to do with the fact that I had no desire to snorkel for seven days straight, but it just wasn’t my favorite vacation.

What has been your favorite meal?

Charcuterie plates all the way.

Where are you traveling to next?

I am currently traveling throughout Ontario and featuring the beauty of my province. I hear about people coming to Canada and for the most part, flock out west to Vancouver and Calgary, but there is so much more to my country than just B.C. and Alberta and I want to show everyone that Ontario is just as rich in scenery and sites. After that, we are heading to Disney World Florida, in January 2018.

What/who inspired you to travel?

When I was going through some life changes I needed to get away and found refuge in travel and the feeling I got being away and exploring new worlds. So in a way, I inspired myself.

What’s your travel style and why do you like it? (Budget, Luxury, slow, sustainable, family, solo etc)

I travel in lux, but don’t pay a lot for accommodation if that makes sense. We experience many great attractions and go to swanky restaurants, but I just don’t feel the need to book expensive hotels. We budget our hotels as we are hardly there and are out sightseeing for the majority of the day. That doesn’t mean that a 2** with bad WIFI and a broken shower is acceptable, haha!
